San Francisco's First Lady, Jennifer Seibel Newsom, is in a racy movie which she filmed before marrying de Gavin.

Jennifer's also now pregnant, and, boy or girl, I suggest Winsom Newsom.

Gay Cleaners had been on the corner of Castro and States Street since I moved into the neighbornood in 1979. It was named for the family who owned it, not a sexual proclivity. And now it's gone.

What Would Google Do? by Jeff Jarvis, Collins Business 2009

The author explores various industries and how thay might Googleize themselves.

Page 5 - The GoogleAdSense box on the home page of my blog, Buzzmachine.com, makes me part of Google's empire. Google sends me money for these ads. Google sends me readers via search. Google benefits by showing those readers more of its ads, which it can make more relevant, effective, and profitable because it knows what my site is about. I invited Google in because Google helps me do what I want to do.

32 - blogging service WordPress.com, self-publishing company Lulu.com and business software company SalesForce.com.

33 - Google has many platforms: Blogger for publishing content, Google Docs and Google Calenday for office collaboration, YouTube for videos, Picasa for photos, GoogleAnalytics to track sites' traffic, GoogleGroups for communities, AdSense for revenue. Google Maps is so good that Google could have put it on the web at maps.google.com and told us to come there to use it, and we would have, but Google also opened its maps so sites can embed them.

39 - Daylife aggregates headlines from all over the web.

40 - Have your web folks show you the searches people made in Google when they clicked on a link to come to you. I learned about watching Google queries from About.com, the first media company made for the Google age. A vast majority of its traffic comes from Google, [It's now owned by N.Y. Times.] 41 - About.com became a content service with 700 sites maintained by independent writers and more than a million helpful, focused and usually timeless articles about niche topics from car repair to thyroid disease. All these articles are structured so Google will find them easily. About.com works hard to make itself Google-ready. Writers are taught search-engine optimization (SEO) -- how to craft headlines, leads, page titles and text around keywords so Google will recognize what each article is about. Writers are also taught to monitor search queries. If users are asking questions for which About.com doesn't have answers, they write articles with those answers. Keeping an eye on search terms is a preemptive readership survey, except instead of asking what people have read, About.com finds out what they want to read.

72 - Amazon set up Mechanical Turk where companies post tasks and people bid to perform them.

73 - Self-publishing Lulu.com and Blurb.com

86 - Social news service Digg has built a content communituy around trust. Users find and submit stories to the site, and then the community votes on what should go to the front page.

89 - Go to flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/ and press the reload button a few times or click the link that lets you view these images as a slideshow. I predict you won't be able to stop.

113 - ... the solutions platform InnoCentive, where scores of companies post problems with offers of rewards for solutions from independent inventors, scientists and tinkerers.

138 - Forty percent of books that are printed are never sold. Books are where words go to die.

180 - CafePress.com and Zazzle provide the means for anyone to make and sell designs on T-shirts, mugs, bumper stickers, even underwear, getting a cut of every on-demand order. Etsy.com, a site filled with unique handmade items, which has been the store for more than 100,000 sellers since 2005.

Fool by Christopher Moore, William Morrow 2009

Fool is King Lear told from his jester's point of view. I found it delightful. There were so many excellent sentences that I only present a few.

Page 7 - [Footnote] Sirrah--form of address, "dude."

30 - [He was raised in a nunnery.] Later, after I learned to walk, they would stand me on the table at mealtimes and have me parade up and down waving my winky at them, a unique appendage in those feminine environs. I was seven before I realized that you could eat breakfast with your pants on.

54 - The Retail Pope would offer cheesy bacon toppings on the Host with communion and the Discount Pope would counter with topless-nun night for midnight mass.

56 - "I'll take her!" said Edgar. "You will not, you blubbering, beetle-browed, dog-buggering dolt!" I may have accidentally exclaimed.

58 - Cornwall made as to draw his dagger, but Regan pulled him away. "You've just won a kingdom, my duke, killing vermin is a servant's task. Leave the bitter fool stew in his own bile." She wanted me. It was clear.

61 - I miss Drool's gape-toothed smile, filled as it was with forgiveness, acceptance, and often, cheddar.

66 - " ... and how St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland." "Aye," said Thalia, "and snakes have been grateful ever since."

67 - You might think it was cruel of her to spend her only time in contact with the outside world telling lies to a little boy, but then, the first story that Mother Basil had told me was about a talking snake who gave tainted fruit to naked people, and the bishop had made her an abbess.

106 - "Squeeze one of these bulbs under your lady's nose, then say your name and she will find your charms irresistible and become overwhelmed with desire for you," explained Sage. "Redundant then, really?" said I with a grin.

116 - "Are they all this small?" "Most are smaller, in fact." "May I touch it?" "If you feel you must." "Well, would you look at that." "See, now you've angered it."

122 - "I've had my curse for simply months," said Regan, not even bothering to look up from her needlepoint. "I find that if I go to the dungeon and have some prisoners tortured I feel better."

177 - "He hath shagged me roughly, against my will, and finished too soon."

231 - "Sorry," I said to Curan. "He's been a bit of a weepy little Nancy to be around since they ripped his eyes out."

270 - "If I'd known all that my husband had to tend to I'd have waited a while before killing him." "There, there, kitten."

307 - They have a Shakespeare Hospice at Stratford, by the way, for those who ticked the "Not to Be" box.
